I like that you went the extra mile to record a woman's voice, it added really well to the soap opera acting. You had six voices in here, which went beyond what was required for the contest guidelines. It's wonderful to hear, and it really helps with displaying your range. The voices fit the characters, and the music was spot on for corny soap opera mockery.

There was some good back-and-forth conversation, and some nice one liners. I liked how you had an interruption and annoyed pause, that sort of thing is harder to do well when you're voicing all the characters but I think you executed it nicely.

Sound quality wise, I've listened to this four times now and I haven't caught any major issues. The voices were clear and enunciated. Macho Man's "Oh Yeah"s didn't cause any peaking or crackling, so your setup seems solid. The "Whyyy" was a bit distorted, but it seems that was intentionally done.

Audacity is an underrated program for being free. You mentioned recording in it, do you do the editing in it as well?

Overall, great work. Oh Yeah!

Plasmarift responds:

Thank you for the review! Yes, I do the editing in Audacity as well (is there a better program I could use? I'm not too knowledgable on voice recording/editing software). I really do look forward to the next voice acting contest!

So what happens if I listened to this second? You can't force me to un-hear the previous upload dangit!

Looking forward to future episodes!

Peregrinus, I swear to God if you don't MIB-style memory flash yourself right now.

Sounds great! I've wondered and don't know if I've asked: are you playing the guitar and then bringing it into FL, or making it all manually? It's very smooth either way.

LexRodent responds:

Thanks. I usually compose this kind of tracks on guitar, then I make the drums, bass and synth parts from scratch on FL, and export them as separate audio tracks. I use the tracks to record the guitars on ACID, add the needed plugins, mix and master there.
If my computer wasn't a toaster I would probably record the guitars straight into FL.

Welcome to the site! When you're feeling better, consider submitting a few demos. If you're interested in voice acting, definitely stop by the Voice Acting Forum! https://www.newgrounds.com/bbs/forum/23

GothGinger responds:

Thank you ^^ will do!

Nice range of character voices mate, it made for a good demo reel. Normally I'd look for more submissions before scouting, but VA's have a hard enough time being found in general let alone the unscouted section so I bend the rules. Welcome to Newgrounds!

Thank you so much for the feedback, I've been trying to improve my variety so I really appreciate the compliment. Ollytobblez

I like your analogy of the jigsaw puzzle, it made it very interesting to hear the components all rearranged completely. Like a jigsaw puzzle, it's a little scattered but tied together by small parts of the painting as they were.

I didn't pick up on any major issues overall. I liked the slow buildup from 1:25 onward, which if I couldn't see the waveform would have tricked me into thinking there was going to be a big mess. Instead, a smooth and well executed shift in the track to something a little more subtle.

Good work, and thanks a bundle for taking part in the contest!

ABFH Judge Review/Comment:

A lot of reviews have covered off a few points and stolen my thunder, but I think I'm committed at this point.

The beat and vocals definitely felt more Future Bass-y than New Wave, but I also associate New Wave with more synth (versus rock New Wave). It is a bit in that weird grey area though, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had a time enjoying what everyone has done with the vocal stem in particular, and this was no exception. You took a lament, and made it more upbeat. That can be challenging, but it worked well.

The plucking from 1:10-1:23 seemed out of place, as it wasn't replicated in the same way elsewhere in the track although 1:24-35 kept the same tone in a bit of a scale. It gave it a bit of a zither quality.

Good work, and good luck in the contest!

I have to be honest, I didn't think metal would work well with the source material but I was shown otherwise. The guitar and drums were on point, and I liked how you used the vocal stem. This was also one of the longer submissions for the contest, which makes me happy. I like when people are able to expand on the source material's length to make it more of their own.

I did find that the vocals got a little drowned out after the 5:00 mark, but I did like how they closed off the track by the 5:41 mark.

Great work, and good luck in the contest!

djt820 responds:

It's interesting how you dug it being longer because I was afraid I was making it too long! Haha. I'm glad you welcomed the metal into your heart. Thank you for the review and your judgment.

ABFH Judge Review/Comment:

The guitar and piano were lovely, and I liked what you did with the vocals. It had some nice ambient elements, which fits well with the genre you selected.

I found the guitar just a shade too sharp in contrast to the remainder of the song. It cut too deeply into the overall feel of the track, but it seemed to stand out a little more. The piano seemed to tie the softer and sharper elements well though, rising and falling a bit like a tide.

Good work mate!

ABFH Judge Review/Comment:

Heyhey. Seems a few others mentioned the sound level as well. I ended up playing it at 4% volume. The giggle was interesting, but I didn't feel the blade sound fit in with the rest of the track and was a bit distracting.

Overall, the dance aspect was nice. You have a nice throbbing beat to it, I might suggest changing the levels to increase the bass a bit more. It was consistently good throughout, and kept itself within the bounds of the source material. I liked what you did with the vocal stem, chopping it up a bit (added to the creepier effects) was a nice unifying factor which made me at my words a bit for disliking some of the creepy bits.

Have a great week!
